When the player first loads into the world or respawns, the game searches within the world spawn area and tries to place the player on a random grass block.Upon spawning, the player is placed on the highest valid spawn point block of the X and Z spawn coordinates, even if this would set the player above the maximum build height.

Once you’ve spawned into the world, travel to the location you’d prefer to set the spawn point. Open up the command bar and type in “ /setworldspawn .”. Hit “Enter”, and the world spawn will be changed to the exact block you’re standing on. If you want to make it so that you spawn on the same block every time and not in a small Features. Players will be sent to the Nether when logging into the world for the first time. Respawning after death will send players to the Nether, unless a bed is set in the Overworld. You can also do the command /setworldspawn to set a spawn specific to that world that you are in.
